BILLY MOLOKENG

Billy Molokeng was born in 1944 in Alexandra/Johannesburg. From his early childhood on he received art tuitition and had his first one-man-show in 1968. In 1971 he started taking art lessons with Esias Eliastam. In 1974 he participated in four group exhibitions and in 1978 his work was shown on the Second International Exhibition in Tel Aviv. A number of group shows followed in Germany, The Netherlands, Greece and Italy. In 1981 he received the Republic Festival Painting award.

His work is represented in the collection of the University of Fort Hare.

Billy Molokeng paints scenes from rural life in Africa, scenes, which have their roots in his imagination and contain elements of tribal rituals. His works are colourful and show his unique composition.
